Fatal collision on 401 near Prescott
(Nov 28th 2017 - Prescott, ON.) - On November 27, 2017 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police arrived at the scene of a multiple vehicle collision on Highway 401 between Prescott and Highway 416.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that two transport trailers and three vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 401 when the collision occurred.
Two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three individuals were transported to hospital by ambulance and one individual by air ambulance with serious and life threatening injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin.
Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, a 60 year old male from Brossard, Quebec is charged with:
- 2 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
- 4 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing in the Brockville Ontario Court of Justice on December 1, 2017.
The Ontario Provincial Police Technical Collision Investigator is continuing to assist with the investigation. Highway 401 eastbound remains closed in the area.
