Transport driver charged in 401 collision with police cruiser
(Dec 18th, 2017 - Belleville, ON) On Saturday, December 16, 2017 at approximately 08:58 a.m. officers with the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound near Belleville, Ontario. A single vehicle had struck the concrete median on Highway 401 westbound near Wallbridge Loyalist Rd.
Napanee OPP officers responded to the collision and parked a cruiser behind the collision scene with emergency lights activated. Shortly thereafter, a tractor trailer travelling westbound on the 401 lost control and jack-knifed, striking the police cruiser. The tractor trailer in question was loaded with multiple cars, which also came loose upon impact. One of the dislodged vehicles landed on the OPP cruiser. The officer was inside the police cruiser at the time of impact but escaped without injury.
The male OPP officer was assessed by paramedics at the scene and later attended hospital where he was treated and released.
The driver, 29 year old Maxim Brindin of Quebec, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
