(Dec 14th, 2017 - Kingston, ON) This week Kingston Police are participating in a Provincial Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) blitz arranged by the Ontario Provincial Police. The blitz, called “Operation Safe Trucking”, was initiated due to the large amount of crashes and fatalities that have occurred recently involving commercial motor vehicles.
On December 13, 2017 at around 10:22 a.m. a Kingston Police Traffic Officer and OPP officer stopped a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 401 near Division Stafter first smelling and then seeing the smoking truck. The traffic stop revealed the rear brakes had seized and two rear tires had blown as a result. Fortunately, the truck was stopped before the flattened tires flew off the truck and into traffic. The truck was taken out of service and the driver has been charged with operating a CMV with a major defect.
